| PURPOSE OF CLASS: | |||||
| In the Department of Transportation, Bureau of Highways assigned Transportation District this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in the inspection of work performed under permit or of road conditions involving traffic regulatory measures. | |||||
| SUPERVISION RECEIVED: | |||||
| Works under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade. | |||||
| SUPERVISION EXERCISED: | |||||
| May lead lower level employees as assigned. | |||||
| EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: | |||||
| Reviews permit applications, bonds, insurance certificates and plans and specifications prior to construction; participates in pre-construction meetings; inspects work affecting state highways by property owners, public utilities, municipalities, general contractors and other state agencies performed under permit to insure compliance with permit specifications, safety procedures and state and local regulations; recommends field changes; verifies completion of permit work; investigates complaints and conducts inspections pertaining to following: illegal encroachments, cross culvert and drainage system installations and new project initiations, major traffic generators and other related matters; prepares drainage project estimates; makes recommendations for improvements pertaining to traffic related matters; reviews roads scheduled for resurfacing; prepares pre-construction and progress reports; coordinates traffic services memoranda and maintains records; maintains contact with other departmental and outside officials regarding projects; may assist Agents of higher grade with investigations; performs related duties as required. | |||||

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: |

| Knowledge of basic principles and practices of highway engineering as applied to construction, reconstruction, maintenance, drainage or traffic; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to read and interpret plans, maps, specifications, regulations and statutes; investigatory ability; ability to prepare charts and graphs. | |||||
| EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: | |||||
| General Experience: | |||||
| Five (5) years' field work in highway construction, reconstruction, maintenance, drainage projects or traffic control studies. | |||||
| Special Experience: | |||||
| One (1) year of the General Experience must have been in the inspection of complex construction, reconstruction, maintenance, drainage or traffic control project. | |||||
| Substitution Allowed: | |||||
| College training in engineering may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree. | |||||
