PURPOSE OF CLASS:
In the Connecticut Historical Commission, this class is accountable for conducting tours of state buildings or areas explaining exhibits or other points of interest; may perform custodial duties.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Initially works under the close supervision of a Museum Assistant, Museum Director or an employee of higher grade; works more independently with acquired experience.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May lead seasonal and other lower level employees as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Conducts tours for visitors through museums or historical areas of interest; escorts visitors to points of interest and explains historical, scientific or cultural background; distributes guide books; collects cash; acts as information clerk to visitors; makes rounds of assigned area and reports any suspicious circumstances to supervisor or police; may demonstrate operation of simple devices; may sell tickets, informational literature and gift shop items; may keep records; may make bank deposits; may perform custodial duties; may operate audio/visual equipment; may make small purchases; may supervise seasonal workers; performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Some knowledge of historical background pertaining to assignment; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; public speaking ability.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience:
One (1) year of guide duty involving contact with the public OR graduation from high school.
This replaces the existing specification for the same class in Salary Group TC 09 approved effective January 13, 1989. (Revised to implement SCOPE compensation)
