PURPOSE OF CLASS:
In a state agency information systems environment this class is accountable for receiving on the job training in performing basic technical work involving help desk functions, user support and assisting in application support.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Initially works under the close supervision of an information systems employee of a higher grade; may work more independently with acquired experience.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Receives on the job training to perform tasks as outlined in the specification for the class of Information. Technology Technician; performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of functioning and use of information systems; knowledge of major concepts and terms used in the information technology profession; basic interpersonal skills; basic logic and analytical skills; ability to prepare and maintain accurate records; ability to prepare written materials and reports; ability to follow oral and written instructions.

General Experience:
General Experience: Two (2) years of experience in computer operations support or another computer related support area.
Substitution Allowed:
College training in management information systems, computer science, electrical engineering or information technology related area may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling six (6) months of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.

RESTRICTION
This class is established to permit agencies to recruit and train employees for information technology work under the provisions of section 5-234 of the C.G.S.

1.
An employee may be appointed to this class for a period not to exceed two (2) years. No exceptions or extensions beyond two (2) years will be granted.
2.
Incumbents in this class who achieve the minimum experience requirements for Information Technology Technician before the end of the specified training period may be appointed to the Information Technology Technician level without taking and passing a merit system examination.
CAREER PROGRESSION:
Incumbents who successfully complete an approved training shall be promoted to the class of Information Technology Technician without taking and passing a merit examination.
