| PURPOSE OF CLASS: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In a correctional facility this class is accountable for organizing and directing the activities of a major manufacturing production, processing or service operation in the occupational area indicated by the parenthetical of the class. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| SUPERVISION RECEIVED: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Works under the general direction of a Correctional Industries Manager 1 or other employee of higher grade. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| SUPERVISION EXERCISED: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Supervises Correctional Industries Supervisors 1 and inmates assigned to an occupational area. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews work of staff; provides staff assistance; determines priorities and plans unit work; establishes and maintains unit procedures; develops or makes recommendations on development of policies and standards; acts as liaison with other operating units and agencies; supervises operation and staff for unit indicated by parenthetical title of class; plans and coordinates production and scheduling; consults with department head and subordinates in development of specifications and requisitioning of supplies, materials, machinery and equipment; supervises operation, maintenance and security of all machinery and equipment; maintains production and inventory records and prepares reports; prepares cost and budget estimates; directs training of subordinates and inmates; reviews and evaluates work of subordinates and inmates assigned, preparing progress and performance reports; may physically restrain inmates, quell disturbances and otherwise assist custodial forces in emergencies; may be required to operate a motor vehicle; performs related duties as required. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: |

| Considerable knowledge of operation, methods, materials and equipment involved in occupational area; considerable knowledge of current methods of production planning and control; knowledge of current objectives, practices and policies relating to inmate work forces in correctional institutions; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints and diagrams where required; ability to keep records and make reports; ability to train, instruct and supervise inmates in methods and techniques of trade; ability to perform under stress and remain stable in pressure situations; supervisory ability. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| General Experience: | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
General Industries: Six (6) years of experience in a manufacturing environment involved in the areas of production, production planning and/or quality control which must have included responsibility for the production output of other workers. |

| Six (6) years of experience in the industry, manufacturing process, services or trade indicated in the occupational subtitle. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Incumbents in this class may be exposed to danger of assault or injury from inmates who have access to tools of the trade as weapons and may be exposed to the following discomforts depending upon their industry: loud machine noises, chemical fumes, working in tiring positions, working with dangerous (high speed and/or high temperature, etc.) machinery. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
